Eric Brassil

Public Engagement Officer, US Embassy in Bulgaria

Eric Brassil is a career Foreign Service Officer serving as the Public Engagement Officer at U.S. Embassy Sofia. He leads a team that designs and implements dynamic public diplomacy programs—including exchanges, grants, English language initiatives, American Corners, speakers, and alumni networks—that strengthen U.S.-Bulgarian ties and advance shared priorities. Eric also serves as Treasurer of the bi-national Fulbright Commission.

A 19-year veteran of the Foreign Service, Eric most recently served as Spokesperson at U.S. Embassy Pristina where he led an innovative, audience-driven communications strategy advancing U.S. priorities. Before that, he managed one of the largest and most complex immigration visa units at U.S. Embassy Kathmandu.

Earlier in his career, Eric served as an Office Management Specialist at embassies Wellington, Moscow, and Athens, and as a Business Practices Advisor at the State Department’s Office of eDiplomacy. He has received over 20 Department of State awards, including OMS of the Year (2014).

Originally from Wilmington, Massachusetts, Eric has an M.A. in Political Science from Central European University and a B.A. in Politics from Washington & Lee University. He has studied Russian, Greek, Albanian, and Bulgarian.
