Eric Brassil

Cultural and Educational Affairs Officer, US Embassy in Bulgaria

As U.S. Embassy Sofia’s Cultural & Educational Affairs Officer, Eric Brassil leads a wide range of cultural and educational programming that promotes shared Euro-Atlantic values and helps forge strong partnerships and connections between Americans and Bulgarians.  He also serves as Treasurer of the bi-national Fulbright Commission.  A 17-year Foreign Service veteran, Eric last served as Spokesperson at U.S. Embassy Pristina (2020-2022) where he pioneered and led an innovative, audience-driven interagency communications strategy and managed $500k in grants advancing USG strategic goals.  Prior to this, Eric led one of the largest and fraud-fraught immigration visa units at U.S. Embassy Kathmandu (2017-2019).  During the first decade of his diplomatic career, Eric served as an Office Management Specialist (OMS) at U.S. Embassy Wellington (2006-2008), U.S. Embassy Moscow (2009-2011), IRM’s Office of eDiplomacy (2011-2014), and U.S. Embassy Athens (2016-2017).  He is the recipient of over 20 State Department awards, including OMS of the Year (2014). A native of Wilmington, Massachusetts, Eric earned an M.A. in Political Science from Central European University (2006) and a B.A. in Politics from Washington & Lee University (2003).
