Prof. Albena Chavdarova

Deputy Minister of Education and Science

Prof. Albena Chavdarova holds a PhD in Pedagogy from Leipzig University (1989) and became a Doctor of Scienses in 2006. Since 2008 she has been a professor at the Department of History of Pedagogy and Education Management at the Faculty of Education, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ochridsky”. Her scope of research covers the domains of history of education and the pedagogical sciences, pedagogical education, qualifying teachers in a historical and contemporary context, history of social work, children’s rights, alternative pedagogical theories and practices, university education in Bulgaria and Germany. Prof. Chavdarova participates as a team lead or team member in more than 20 science projects, some of which are international.  She has published 5 monographs, more than 20 books, some of them – in German, and more than 100 articles in publications in this country and abroad. Prof.Chavdarova has taken part in many scientific fora, seminars, workshops in this country and abroad. She has been the tutor of 5 PhD students and one of them is currently working on her thesis.
She was appointed Deputy Minister of Education and Science in August 2022.
